New TRACES certificates and CEM requirements for semen, oocytes and embryos

Three EU regulations update testing for Taylorella equigenitalis (CEM), intra-EU certificate models and a narrow derogation for registered horses transiting another Member State. The derogation does not replace normal TRACES and certification for ordinary foreign racing or training journeys.

Purchase, import and intra-EU movement of equine semen, oocytes and embryos; in one narrow case, transit of registered horses.

Practical checklist

  1. For consignments dispatched from 1 November, ask the collection centre to confirm donor CEM testing under the new rules.
  2. Verify the correct TRACES model, dispatch establishment ID, receiving establishment and test evidence before transport is booked.
  3. Do not use the transit derogation for an ordinary racing or training journey without explicit verification of every condition.

Sweden

Changed framework for competition veterinarians at public events

According to the published material, the Government decision allows the Swedish Board of Agriculture to determine both when and to what extent a veterinarian must attend. The veterinarian's ability to inspect an animal after competing where injury or suffering is suspected is clarified. The formal SFS number and consolidated wording are still being monitored.

Practical checklist

  1. Add an immediate post-race check to the race-day checklist and report abnormalities without delay.
  2. Keep the horse and responsible handler available for any requested post-event inspection before leaving the venue.
  3. Organiser: apply to the Swedish Board of Agriculture for a competition veterinarian at least three weeks before the event starts.
