The right horse. The right documents. The right risk.

Structured buyer support for Scandinavian clients sourcing Arabian racing or breeding horses internationally.

Our mandate

We shorten the distance — not the due diligence.

1919 by Shelby can help a buyer define the requirement, reach relevant contacts, screen candidates and coordinate the next steps.

We do not promise wins, hide uncertainty or replace the veterinarian, transporter, customs representative, lawyer or authority. A horse or seller is represented only under a clear mandate. Fees, expenses, any commission and conflicts of interest must be disclosed in writing before the assignment starts.

Three markets

The same discipline. Different rulebooks.

EU

France

A deep market for international Arabian racing and breeding. Movement is within the EU, but the actual journey still requires the correct identity, health documentation, registered operators and transport records.

EU

Poland

An established European environment for Arabian racing, breeding and competition. The candidate's results, registration, passport and ownership authority should be checked before price and transport are locked.

Third country

United States

Entry into the EU has additional gates: eligible territory of origin, official health certificate, testing requirements, Traces/CHED, customs and an approved border control post in another EU country because Sweden has no such post for live animals.

Controlled process

Five gates before the deal.

01

Buyer brief

Purpose, budget, age, sex, distance profile, performance level, breeding value, timeline and maximum accepted risk are defined before the search begins.

02

Shortlist & background

We build a limited shortlist and compare pedigree, documented form, ownership authority, identity and known conditions. Anything that cannot be verified is marked clearly.

03

Independent checks

The buyer appoints the veterinarian and decides the scope of examination, imaging, testing and any insurance review. A passed veterinary examination is never a guarantee of performance.

04

Contract & logistics

Price, VAT/customs, transfer of risk, documents, transport, insurance and responsibilities must be written down before the horse moves. Official requirements are confirmed for the actual route.

05

Arrival & registration

Passport, health documents, establishment registration, Traces where required and Swedish supplementary registration or studbook steps are checked with the responsible authority or organisation.

Official verification

The route and the date decide the rules.

Requirements can change with animal-health conditions and differ between an intra-EU movement and entry from a third country. Final checks are always made with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, Traces, the official veterinarian, customs and the relevant studbook before transport is booked.

Start with a buyer brief

Describe the horse before we look for it.

Send the budget excluding transport, intended use, age, sex, preferred bloodlines, competition level, timeline and non-negotiables. We will then assess whether the assignment fits our network and capacity.
